Capitol Fire Trucks Wash DC Spring

Capitol Fire Trucks of Wash DC is off and running this spring.  We have had numerous party's in Capitol Hill, Georgetown, Rockville, Silver Spring, Bethesda, Bowie and Ellicott City. We start off with a brief fire safety speech learning about smoke detectors, 911 and that special meeting place all families should have.
The kids try on real fire helmets, coats, gloves and face pieces.  The birthday boy is the first to sit in the drivers seat of our fire engine and man the wheel.  Next they all take a tour of the fire engine learning about axes, fire hose and ladders.  All the kids work well together stretching our fire hose to the front door as if they are ready to put a real fire out. Now that all the kids are geared up and ready, it's time to flow some water.  Great way for the kids to have fun and learn what it takes to be a real fireman.  Capitol Fire Trucks thanks all for letting us come out this spring and share in the  kids experience.

Capitol Fire Trucks Smoke Detectors

The state of Maryland has updated there law pertaining to smoke detectors. The new amendment is in place to further reduce the number of fire fatalities in homes each year. Here are 5 important things you need to know.

1.  Maryland’s new smoke alarm law requires the
replacement of all BATTERY-ONLY operated smoke
alarms with units powered by sealed-in, 10-year
long-life batteries.

2.   All smoke alarms have expiration dates. Both hard-
wired and battery-operated smoke alarms need
to be replaced every ten years. If your smoke
detector has not been replaced since 2004, it’s time!

3. Smoke alarms are
required to be located outside each sleeping
area and on every level of your home including
basements finished or unfinished

4.   For homes constructed since 1994, smoke alarms
have been required inside all sleeping rooms. For
maximum protection, fire officials recommend
installing smoke alarms in sleeping rooms
regardless of the year of construction.

5.  Homeowners have until January 1, 2018 to
comply with the new law.
